If you enjoy a day at the spa you already know that having more than one spa service really can bring your relaxation to a new level. The one hour services are nice, but having your skin cleansed and enjoying an all over body treatment and a lovely massage all in a day at the spa– now that is what it’s all about! Nothing in the world will bother, irritate, annoy, or set you off so easily after hours of delightful spa services. So, with this in mind, what is the best order for a day at the spa?
First things first, Begin with the Messy Spa Services
If you have booked a Salt Glow Body Treatment (or Sugar Body Polish in some instances) this is a pretty messy service and requires the product removal. A shower is preferred, although some spas use wet towels to remove the product. This can be a bit uncomfortable if they miss a few areas and you are left with the feeling that you just left the beach and there is sand in your shorts. So if you planned to have a massage after the polish, you definitely do not want to be in the same spot as all the salt or sugar bits will eventually be massaged into your skin and that can be uncomfortable. It’s good to check that your spa provides a shower, and it is available for use during your body polish session. Having a shower not only removes the exfoliating product along with dry skin cells, but also allows you to wash up a bit before your other services.
If you have selected any kind of Body Treatment, it is recommended that you proceed right to that service next.
Body Treatment: Schedule this right after the Body Polish
A day at the spa is not complete without any sort of body treatment for hydration or relaxing! It is recommended that right after you shower – you begin the body treatment service. Why? Well, most body treatments begin with exfoliation anyways (usually a sort of dry rub to remove dead skin cells) so by having the Sugar Body Polish completed; your skin is ready to receive a wonderful, nutrient rich product. Your pores are slightly open and warm, so the product penetrates the skin easier.
After the product is applied and you are wrapped and resting comfortably in the treatment room there is a sort of calm peacefulness that allows you to really zone out and relax. You can almost feel all the nutrients from the body treatment product enter your body. If you were a bit rushed in your arrival, here is where you are really, truly relaxed and calm for a day at the spa.
It is interesting to note that the therapist sometimes is very surprised about the amount of product that is totally gone after unwrapping their client. Many times therapists are surprised to find that their clients’ skin absorbed nearly all of the product! What does this mean? It means that your skin was very dry, dehydrated and malnourished so it soaked up everything! (Note: apply a good body moisturizer liberally at home!)
A nice therapeutic Massage after a Sugar Body Polish and Body Treatment is a perfect way to reintroduce luscious hydration onto your newly exfoliated skin. It will make your skin so smooth and soft and of course the massage is working out all your stress and aches and pains. Your calm relaxed state also helps the therapist with their massage techniques – your muscles respond better in a relaxed manner. Make sure you have told the spa if you are ok with a male massage therapist of not – very important. Since you might not have a day at the spa until your next birthday, why not splurge and make it an hour and a half massage? Many people wish they extended their massages only after they were on the table – plan ahead and add extra massage time!
Skin Therapy – A Day at the Spa Must Have
As the benefits of having a facial have grown, especially with brand new anti-aging technology being introduced each year, the word “Facial” has morphed into a category known as “skin therapy”. Awesome! I can tell my husband I need a bit of skin therapy to complement my retail and massage therapy for Christmas this year. What a nice idea!
The skin therapy session after your Sugar Body Polish, Body Treatment and Massage is perfectly timed. Your face is now feeling a bit dry and overlooked as your body is now freshly exfoliated and silky smooth. It’s time to have a nice bit of attention to the things that concern you with your skin. Dry patches, redness, aging wrinkles, acne, dullness – you name it – your esthetician has a variety of products and techniques to improve these situations.
Last Spa Service – Pedicure or Manicure
By having your nails completed last at the spa ensures that the polish does not get damaged during the other treatments. Usually you are fully clothed at this point too so that the polish is not damaged as you dress. If, for some reason nails are not completed last in a series of spa services, then your time at the spa is longer due to drying time. If you are having lunch at the spa sometimes they will complete your nail services right before lunch knowing that there is extra drying time during lunch.
